Companies

A company is a business a contact works for or buys on behalf of. Threads stay with the person, but a company’s page brings together all its people’s threads and leads, so you can see the whole relationship.

Companies are added when:

  • you type one in, on a contact or from Companies
  • a contact form or lead includes a company name
  • you import contacts with their companies (see Importing contacts)
  • a contact’s email address is on a company’s domain, if domain linking is on

A company can be just a name to start with. Fill in the rest later.

  1. Click Companies in the menu, then New company.
  2. Enter its Name. If your business is in the UK, you can use Find on Companies House to fill in its registered details.
  3. Click Add company.
  1. Open the contact’s page or the contact panel.
  2. Under Companies, add the company. Search for it, or type a new name.
  3. Optionally give their Role and Job title.

A contact can belong to several companies. One is their main company, shown with their name in the inbox; choose Make it their main company to change it. If someone has left, choose They’ve left to keep the link for history, or Take off to remove it.

A company’s page shows its Details (address, website, domains, VAT number, who it’s Looked after by), its People, and its Threads and Leads in the inboxes you can see.

Companies can have a Parent company. Tick Include group companies to see the threads and leads of the whole group.

When a contact’s email address is on a company’s domain, they’re linked to that company. This never creates a company, ignores free email providers, and doesn’t link when two companies share a domain. Owners and admins can turn it off with Link people by email domain in Settings > Fields and events.

From More actions on a company’s page:

  • Merge another company in… joins a duplicate into this one. You can Undo it under Recent merges.
  • Delete company… deletes the company, its domains and its links. Its people stay in your contacts.
