Adding your website

The website script is one short piece of code you add to your website. It records which campaign brought each lead, fills in hidden fields on your own forms, and runs the website assistant if you switch it on. Websites work on every plan; the AI assistant needs Pro.

Managers and above set up websites in Connections > Websites.

  1. Go to Connections > Websites and click Add a website.
  2. Enter the Website name and Website address.
  3. Choose the Inbox that sees its chats and leads.
  4. Save. The website’s page opens.
  1. On the website’s page, find Add it to your website.
  2. Copy the Website code.
  3. Paste it just before </body> on every page of your website, or add it as a custom HTML tag in Google Tag Manager.

The page shows when the script has been seen on your website. Changes you save in Threadkite reach your website within five minutes.

If your website was built by someone else, send them the code and ask them to add it to every page.

If your website already has its own forms, the script can fill in hidden fields with the visit’s campaign and pages, so leads from those forms say which campaign brought them. Turn on Add the fields to my forms, or choose Add them yourself instead to add the hidden fields with your form builder. The form’s email must reach your inbox email address.

Threadkite’s own contact forms send these details themselves. See Contact forms.

The script keeps where a visit came from in the visitor’s browser, never in a cookie, until they send a form or chat. If your website asks visitors about cookies, open If your website asks visitors about cookies and add the calls shown to your cookie banner. When a visitor says no, the script stores nothing.

Open Record leads in your own analytics for code that tells your page when someone sends a form or leaves their details in a chat, so you can record a conversion in Google Ads, Analytics or the Meta pixel. It never passes on what they typed.

If someone copies your code to another website, click Give it a new key. The old code stops working straight away, so paste the new code into your website.
