Fields and events

Fields are facts you keep about each contact or company, beyond their name and details, such as a budget or when a contract renews. Events are things that happen to contacts, from Threadkite or from your other systems. Automations can use both.

Managers and above set them up in Settings > Fields and events.

  1. Go to Settings > Fields and events.
  2. Choose whether it’s for contacts or companies.
  3. Click Add field.
  4. Give it a Name.
  5. Choose its Kind:
    • text: anything up to 500 characters, such as a preferred contact time
    • a number, such as a budget
    • a date, such as when a contract renews. Automations can start on or around it.
    • yes or no, such as “Existing customer”
    • one of a list you set, such as Morning, Afternoon or Evening. Enter the Choices, one a line.
  6. Save.

Fields marked Standard come with Threadkite and Can’t be changed.

Open a contact’s page or the contact panel and click Change under Fields. Company fields are on the company’s page. Fields can also be filled in by an import, by an automation, or by your other systems through the API.

When you no longer need a field, Archive it. Values already set are kept, but nobody can set it any more, and automations that set or check it may stop working. You can Restore it later.

Under Events you’ll see the things that can happen to a contact. Some come from Threadkite, such as a new lead. Others come from your other systems through the API, such as an order being placed. Use Rename to give an event a clearer name.

Events can start an automation. See Building an automation.
